John W. Uhlein

With over 25 years of experience in completing complex structured transactions, as a lawyer, banker, and lender, John Uhlein formed Grenadier Capital LLC in 2009 to assist companies in the growth stage seeking equity and debt capital. Grenadier Capital also provides advisory services. Mr. Uhlein is an adjunct lecturer at NYU, teaching four evening courses, on Financial Management, Asset Finance, Risk Management and Fixed Income. Mr. Uhlein serves as a Board Observer to CFX Markets, an online trading platform for alternative assets and crypto securities and is Chairman of the Board of Lavit, LLC (see www.drinklavit.com).
Mr. Uhlein was at Ambac Financial Group for over 15 years and was the Founder and Chairman of Ambac UK, Ambac’s highly successful UK FSA regulated subsidiary, where he was involved in the structuring and risk assessment of many industry award winning infrastructure, municipal and structured transactions.
Mr. Uhlein was also Executive Vice President of Ambac, responsible for its US structured finance, project finance, and ABS operations, excluding CDOs. In the US, the transaction types ranged from commodity ABS to complex structured finance transactions. Mr. Uhlein also ran an international joint venture with MBIA for over five years. Mr. Uhlein was a member of the Executive Management and Senior Risk Committees.
Mr. Uhlein started his career at the law firm of Skadden Arps and was involved during the creation of the securitization business in the mid 1980’s, first at Skadden then as a banker at Kidder, Peabody.
Mr. Uhlein received his BA from Hamilton College and JD/MBA from Syracuse University. He is a member of the New York State Bar and holds his Series 7 and 63 registrations.
